Cinderella is exciting, and a fun filled inspirational experience, especially when the participants and parents follow the rules of good sportsmanship and fair play. With the right attitude and goals, the Cinderella Scholarship Program can play an important role in the development of clean wholesome ideals and principles that will last a lifetime.

When I was 11, I was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. At the time of my diagnosis, my doctor recommended a cortisone shot procedure because the arthritis was very intense and affecting my physical abilities to get through a day. Unfortunately something went wrong during my procedure that prevented me from being able to walk on my right leg. I was admitted into the hospital for testing and rehabilitation so that I could walk normally again. I was there for a little over a month and it was a painful, exhausting process. For the next couple of years, most of my time was spent recovering from that experience and as well as two surgeries that followed. Throughout my recovery and for a long time after, I was viewed as the “arthritis girl” or “cripple” who people didn’t expect anything from. I was bullied by kids that did not understand - which made recovery even harder.
I’m 19 now and it took a lot to get back on my feet (literally). Even though the arthritis still affects me and because it is an auto-immune disorder, I frequently get sick, but I still try to live life to the fullest. I don’t let it hold me back! I may not be a track star, but I will always try my best and have had some successes. I went from being a sick kid in a wheelchair getting my picture with Miss Arizona to being crowned Miss Tempe’s Outstanding Teen 2015 and competing for the Miss Arizona’s Outstanding Teen myself!
I love to sing and have performed at many events throughout the Valley as a soloist and in a band as well as winning Prescott Idol and being a semi-finalist in Alice Cooper’s Proof in the Pudding Competition. Last summer I was selected to be part of the Arizona Ambassadors - a choir group that toured Europe for 17 days. I’ve been river rafting, ziplining and swimming in the ocean. Even though it’s been a hard road, I always keep trying and keep following my dreams!
There is still so much more research to do to find a cure. Arthritis and related diseases impact the lives of more than 50 million Americans - including 300,000 children. They experience everyday “no’s” like being unable to play, buttoning a shirt, tying tennis shoes or other simple tasks that most people take for granted. Please help us turn those everyday no’s into yes’s by donating today!
